Academic Assistance

Academics are the Midshipman's first priority. Sometimes the transition to college life and the military may be a difficult one, but the OSU NROTC Battalion has a lot to offer to assist Midshipmen.

  1. Midshipman are instantly integrated into the Battalion of nearly 140 members. Every Midshipman becomes your fellow shipmate and is someone whom you can depend upon for assistance and guidance. It is a great way to make a large place like The Ohio State University a small one, especially since the upperclasses have all been through what you are currently going through.
  2. The Mentorship Program. All incoming freshmen Midshipmen are assigned a more senior Midshipman that will act as their mentor. They usually have taken the same classes as they are right now and can easily relate to them.
  3. The Mershon Grant Program. This is a program unique to the OSU NROTC Battalion. This program actually financially rewards Midshipmen for outstanding academic performance. Any Midshipman, Scholarship or College Program, who is taking at least 15 academic credit hours is eligible for the benefits each quarter.
  4. The OSU NROTC Battalion has at its services a Math and Physics tutor. This is a free service that is intended to assist Midshipmen through what is typically considered some of the most challenging courses during their academic careers.
  5. The OSU NROTC Battalion has its own study rooms and state of the art computer lab. These facilities enable the Midshipmen to do homework, write papers, and e-mail professors all from the NROTC unit and unlike other University labs, these facilities are for Midshipmen use only.
