Academic Assistance
Academics are the Midshipman's first priority. Sometimes the transition
to college life and the military may be a difficult one, but the
OSU NROTC Battalion has a lot to offer to assist Midshipmen.
- Midshipman are instantly integrated into the Battalion of nearly
140 members. Every Midshipman becomes your fellow shipmate and
is someone whom you can depend upon for assistance and guidance.
It is a great way to make a large place like The Ohio State University
a small one, especially since the upperclasses have all been through
what you are currently going through.
- The Mentorship Program. All incoming freshmen
Midshipmen are assigned a more senior Midshipman that will act
as their mentor. They usually have taken the same classes as they
are right now and can easily relate to them.
- The Mershon Grant Program. This is a program
unique to the OSU NROTC Battalion. This program actually financially
rewards Midshipmen for outstanding academic performance. Any Midshipman,
Scholarship or College Program, who is taking at least 15 academic
credit hours is eligible for the benefits each quarter.
- The OSU NROTC Battalion has at its services a Math and Physics
tutor. This is a free service that is intended to assist Midshipmen
through what is typically considered some of the most challenging
courses during their academic careers.
- The OSU NROTC Battalion has its own study rooms and state of
the art computer lab. These facilities enable the Midshipmen to
do homework, write papers, and e-mail professors all from the
NROTC unit and unlike other University labs, these facilities
are for Midshipmen use only.
