From the Bridge
The NROTC Alumni Society is now entering its 7th year and enjoys
strong support from the alumni and a healthy financial position.
I attribute its current strength to the leadership of my predecessors:
Dave Ozvat, Tom Lennon and Henry Phillips.
This alumni society means a lot to those of us who are actively
participating and can be very meaningful to all of you who share
our common background and Navy/Marine Corps experiences. I encourage
you to become more active by attending our functions, serving on
our Board, and contributing to our support of the Unit through financial
contributions to the Seawolf Endowment Fund.
Our regular functions include: (1) tailgates at two OSU football
games (with tickets available at one of the games through the Alumni
Association), (2) tickets as a group to OSU basketball, baseball
and ice hockey games, (3) the annual Battalion Color Parade with
a reception following (usually at the Stadium Recruit Room), (4)
installation ceremonies for our Flag Honors inductions honoring
some of our most successful graduates, and (5) regular Board meetings
followed by appropriate refreshments and pizza at the Varsity Club
with lots of swapping of war stories. Now who wouldn't want to be
included in these functions … it's just like our collegiate
days!
Not only does the society give us the opportunity to re-live some
of our most enjoyable years, but it also provides us new friends
from earlier and later year groups we didn't know in school. I have
particularly enjoyed getting to know several graduates from the
very first class at the Unit graduating in 1950. As we get older,
the age differences just seem to melt away and we simply appreciate
our common love of the sea and the corps.
So, give it some thought … and come join us in re-living
the past.
