Michael Terranova

Assistant Professor, Naval Science; Nuclear Power Officer

Lieutenant Michael Terranova was born in Beverly, MA. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering and his commission from the University of Notre Dame in 2020, after which he reported to Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Charleston, SC to begin his nuclear training. Upon completing Nuclear Power School and Prototype, he reported to the Submarine Officer Basic Course (SOBC) in Groton, CT.

LT Terranova reported to PCU (now USS) HYMAN G. RICKOVER (SSN-795) in Groton in February 2022. While onboard RICKOVER, he served as the Reactor Control Assistant and later the Assistant Engineer, overseeing the build, commissioning, and training process for the new Virginia Class submarine. He helped prepare the ship for Initial Criticality, Crew Certification, Sea Trials, commissioning, various national tasking, and the crew’s first mission. LT Terranova also supported USS DELAWARE (SSN-791) for six months, serving as the Damage Control Assistant. LT Terranova guided both ships through a total of four Reactor Safeguards Exams and two Submarine Command Courses. LT Terranova earned his gold dolphins in May 2023 and qualified Engineer with distinction from Naval Reactors in August 2023. 

LT Terranova reported to the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit, The Ohio State University, as Assistant Professor of Naval Science and Nuclear Power Officer in November 2024. He lives in Columbus and his personal awards consist of the Navy Achievement Medal (3) and various service awards.
