LT Nicholas Tiley is a native of Dayton, OH and was raise in Brookville, OH. He is a 2014 graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, and earned a master’s degree in Exercise Science from Cleveland State University in 2016. Selected to attend the U.S. Navy Officer’s Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, LT Tiley earned his commission in 2018.
At sea, LT Tiley served aboard USS OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG 79) as the ship’s Electrical Safety Officer and Turbine Officer during the ship’s Depot Modernization Period and fire recovery, earning his qualification and designation as a Surface Warfare Officer. While assigned to USS OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG 79), LT Tiley deployed to the 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation USS GONZALEZ (DDG 66) and participated in operational tasking with USS MCFAUL (DDG 74). He was also selected to augment Carrier Strike Group 4 as a Red Cell umpire to support readiness and certification of naval forces during a major exercise.
During his FDNF-J assignment aboard USS NEW ORLEANS (LPD 18) as the Combat Information Center Officer, LT Tiley aided in the management of the ship’s SOE to CPR-11, MOB-N accreditation, and READ-6 through Basic Phase leading into Patrol 22.2. During this time, he was selected for TAD orders to the USS TRIPOLI (LHA-7) to provide advanced warfighting tactics and protocol for AIT/CERTEX in support of VBSS MIO exercises along with close support and integration of the 31st MEU.
LT Tiley reported as Assistant Professor of Naval Science and Surface Warfare Instructor at the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit, The Ohio State University in August 2023.
LT Tiley’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards.
