Lieutenant Ryan McGuire, a native of Syracuse, New York, graduated from Norwich University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He received his commission through Norwich University’s Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps in May 2020.
Following commissioning, LT McGuire reported to USS STERETT (DDG 104) where he served as First Lieutenant. During his tour, he was responsible for deck operations, seamanship evolutions, and the management of shipboard maintenance programs.
In his second sea tour, LT McGuire reported to USS STOUT (DDG 55) as the Damage Control Assistant. While aboard, he deployed to the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility, where STOUT’s primary mission included the defense of Israel and the protection of merchant shipping against Houthi rebel attacks. In this role, he led the ship’s damage control program and trained the crew in firefighting, flooding response, and chemical, biological, and radiological defense.
In September 2025, LT McGuire reported as an Assistant Professor of Naval Science and Surface Warfare Instructor at the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit, The Ohio State University.
His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), the Combat Action Ribbon, and various unit and campaign awards.
